Postmodern Principles Collage
For my postmodern principles collage, I wanted to use juxtaposition as I think there's a lot that can be done with it. While I had several ideas on what do to for the collage, I wanted to make something that contrasted an urban environment with a natural one and this is what I came up with. To display these contrasting ideas I used a photo of a building and cut it out following all the perfect, even lines that made it up. For the natural side of the collage, the best photo I could find was of a waterfall which I tore out rather than cut out to show the less perfect, more raw side of nature. And finally to connect both sides of the collage, I used a cutout of a mountain biker from a magazine at home and tried to make him burst from the urban to natural side. I also let the image of the waterfall run off the page as a way to express the limitless potential and experience of nature. Though I think this turned out okay, I personally really dislike making collages as being stuck with the magazines provided usually means that whatever idea I've had before goes right out the window should I not be able to find anything to make it. I also find it very difficult to piece together many random images as often the final product ends up being more abstract than realistic, which I usually tend to stay away from.
