Glass Orbs and Polyscapes
Washington Square Arch - This image was taken at the Washington Square Arch in Manhattan New York. While most of the NYC photos were used in my architecture photos, I didn't think this photo was good enough to be in with the rest, therefore I didn't use it. When I was searching for photos to use for this glass sphere project, I thought that this image would be perfect as it has a distinct subject matter, interesting surroundings and was taken at ground level, which turned out to matter more than I thought. The process of creating the fake glass orb was fairly straightforward, though I had to play around with the lighting and the highlights in the sphere to make it look more realistic.

Orb Over Water - This image was one I took last year for Digital Photography 1. While I did use the image in the past, I wanted to see what the glass sphere effect would have on the image as it's both colorful and has a lot of texture. Another reason I wanted to use this photo was that there is no solid ground beneath the orb which I think adds the surreal and magical feeling of the image. Out of all my images, I think the fake glares/lighting came out best in this image as the bright outdoor setting makes them more believable.

Snowy Beach - This image was taken at Petosky State Park from over this winter. While we were up north for a snowboarding trip, I had the idea to stop a a beach as I've never been to a beach during the winter. For me, the experience was pretty weird stepping on sand snow and ice all at the same time, though the views at the beach were worth it. As it was the middle of winter, the beach was left empty and the only sound to be heard was the waves of lake Michigan. Adding the glass sphere to this image was a bit more complicated than the rest of the images as I wanted the sphere to be off center. This led me to have to get creative with the marquee tools in order to create the same effect in the circle.

M-28 - For this project I wanted to use at least one aerial photo as I thought that the distortion from the sphere would look cool spread out over a large landscape. While I think this image turned out to be pretty good, it isn't my favorite out of the bunch for a couple of reasons. I think the biggest reason that I don't like this image is due to the orb not being close to the ground. This leads to there not being a shadow cast making the image seem less real and more fake. I also think that because the beach line doesn't get distorted greatly through the orb, it ruins the effect for the right side where the left side shows more distortion.
